Defiance
Defiance is a micro-politan community with great history and a matching aptitude for success. People here are friendly, down to earth, live in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoy family, and are dedicated to the solid mid-western ethic of a good day’s work for a day’s pay. The city enjoys a tranquil setting. The historic Maumee and Auglaize Rivers flow through the community, and where they junction, mighty forts once stood. Today, the river banks shelter fine homes and their waters provide exciting recreation.
Defiance is an energized community with a bright future. Defiance is the County Seat for Defiance County and the regional center for a six-county area. Government and business leaders have established impressive goals for the growth and development of numerous companies, producing a wide range of products.
Defiance area residents live in attractive, well-kept homes. Their children attend excellent public and private schools, and many continue their education at highly rated local technical and academic colleges.

Location & Transportation
Defiance is the commercial and industrial hub of the six-county Northwest Ohio area. It is conveniently located within a one-hour drive of Toledo and Fort Wayne. Cleveland, Cincinnati, Detroit and Chicago are all within an easy drive from Defiance.
An excellent system of state and U.S. highways serves the transportation needs of the community. Intersecting in Defiance are state routes 18, 15, 66, 281, 424, and 111. U.S. 24, a major route between Fort Wayne and Toledo, passes the city to the north.
The Toledo Express and Fort Wayne International Airports, served by several national and international airlines, are located one hour away. The Defiance County Airport features a 4,200-foot PLASI lighted runway with instrument approach, and provides facilities for corporate and private aircraft.
Defiance industry is served by Maumee and Western Railroad and CSX railroads. Eleven truck lines provide intrastate and interstate shipping. The Port of Toledo, a gateway for global trade, located on Lake Erie, is only 50 miles away.
Housing
For more than 165 years, the river banks and gently rolling landscape of the Defiance area have displayed an expanding tapestry of fine family homes, loved by those who live within them. Today, a wide-ranging choice of home types, styles, and prices are available.
Close to downtown Defiance, adjacent to the Maumee and Auglaize Rivers, stands a variety of well-kept older homes, some dating from the turn of the century. These homes are enhanced by ongoing riverfront beautification, which has received praise from the U.S. Department of the Interior.
New executive style homes are situated at the northern and southern fringes of the community, and a variety of homes on wooded private lots in diverse neighborhoods are available.
For those preferring a more carefree lifestyle, the community has several handsome apartment complexes and areas where luxury condominiums have been recently constructed.
Jobs & Commerce
Several factors combine to spur Defiance’s success as a regional supplier of quality industrial jobs. Area residents are motivated by a strong Midwestern work ethic, and a quality education system prepares them to enter the work force. A can-do, growth attitude prevails among public officials and community leaders, and the community enjoys excellent transportation and energy resources, with access to major markets.
Defiance County has a work force of over 23,000, and many industries draw employees from the entire region. They include trained management, clerical, skilled trades and semi-skilled craftsmen.

Education
The educational arena in Defiance County offers a myriad of opportunities for all students from kindergarten through the twelfth grades.
The Defiance City School District has an approximate enrollment of 2,549 students. The district will soon break ground for a new K-5 grade school, bringing the students the newest and safest in modern facilities. The curriculum focuses on the basic core subjects and is augmented by art, music, and technology programs.
The fifth and sixth grade students attend the Defiance Middle School where team teaching places the emphasis on basic education. The middle school offers an expanded library and computer lab where students can take advantage of electronic information.
Defiance Junior High School broadens the curriculum for seventh and eighth graders. Team teaching provides both the basic and elective offerings, while also giving individual student support. The junior high has an impressive computer lab and is also the first site in Northwest Ohio for the Channel 11 WeatherNet. Anyone visiting the junior high’s home page can have a bird’s eye view of downtown Defiance.
Defiance High School is the home of the 1997 Division II State Football Champs and the 1992 Division I State Baseball Champs. Nearly 825 students are enrolled at the senior high school and select from 140 offerings of required and elective courses that include: English, mathematics, science, history, social science, physical education, fine arts, instrumental and vocal music, speech and debate, foreign languages, home economics, industrial arts, business topics, and computer technology in business, industrial arts and general computer classes.
The School-to-Work initiative has been undertaken and is being incorporated into the current curriculum Academic excellence is evidenced through the district’s students proficiency scores. Students, throughout various grade levels, have scored among the highest of the twenty two districts in Northwest Ohio.
The Defiance City Schools has many mutually beneficial community partnerships. The Children and Family First Council works with our schools to provide a continuum of social services for children. The Volunteer Connection pairs adult volunteers with students who need additional support. Through the Red Cross, high school students assist with blood drives and other service activities.
The City Schools and the YMCA cooperate to provide better facilities for district programs. The Fort Defiance Players lend their theatrical expertise and provide cultural enrichment for our students and the community. The Defiance City Schools Foundation annually provides
grants to enhance instruction and manages several scholarships for higher education. Working together, the community and schools make a difference for our children.
Parks & Recreation
The riverfront has been revitalized through a private/ public partnership which has created a park-like atmosphere at the edge of the central business district. A new central-city park is being constructed to recognize the early economic importance of the Miami and Erie Canal system which traveled through Defiance. The former National Guard Armory building was converted to a Family Resource Center and the Defiance Area Foundation has created a Community Service Center building, both in the central business district.
All the wonders and joys of outdoor activities are available to residents of Defiance. The Maumee and Auglaize Rivers offer exciting boating, the thrills of water skiing, and the proper solitude for fishing. Nearby Independence Dam State Park has hiking trails, camping, and picnic areas. More than 150 acres of park-lands are contained within the city, providing complete recreation facilities.
The Defiance Parks and Recreation Department maintains the city’s attractive parks and schedules a variety of sports and recreation activities for residents of all ages. Large outdoor pools are located in Kingsbury Park at the confluence of the Maumee and Auglaize Rivers, and Bronson Park on the city’s southwest side.
The city’s parks are equipped for challenging sports and family fun. Included are lighted tennis courts, basketball courts, lighted baseball and softball fields, soccer fields, horseshoe pits, and picnic sites, grills, and shelters. During the summer, the Defiance Parks and Recreation Department offers a summer playground program for youngsters. It provides swimming instructions at both outdoor pools and conducts “swimnastics,” (an exercise program), and lap swimming.
The department offers recreation T-ball for boys and girls between the ages of five and seven. A BMX dirt track is also available at Diehl Park. Also offered are a boxing program and a fall football program for boys in the fifth and sixth grades.
The Defiance County Senior services has centers in Defiance and Hicksville, and provides a comfortable gathering place and a host of services and activities geared to the residents. The centers offer a card and game room, an activity room, and a large dining room where hot noontime meals are served. Activities and services include exercise instruction, art and craft classes, trips and tours, bridge tournaments, afternoon bingo, holiday parties, buffet suppers, and dances. Along with their many social activities, senior services also provides transportation and supportive services, education, information, and health screenings.

Archbold
The Village of Archbold is situated in western Fulton County and in the Township of German, State of Ohio.
Archbold is that rarity among communities-a town where growth is based on an already thriving infrastructure. A town prepared to support further growth because it has mastered the process. A town of 4290 people which supports well over 7,000 jobs. A town which is prepared to help you succeed.
In 1999, Archbold chose to become a "Community of Character." The village, churches and businesses are working to prove that the citizens of this charming commuinity can promote positive character qualities in our youth and community.
2005 brought a renovated downtown and the completion of a 3 year road project on the main artery of Archbold, State Route 66. In 2006 a remodeling project at the wastewater treatment facility is being started and businesses continue to expand and grow. The Archbold Area Schoolsagain achieved an "Academic Excellent" rating from the State of Ohio (for the 5th consecutive year). Sauder Village opened the new Sauder Store & Outlet Center and is currently adding 50 rooms to the beautiful Heritage Inn.

Bryan
The city of Bryan is considered by many to be the finest small town in the state of Ohio.
Perhaps Bryan’s greatest asset is its ability to combine the friendliness and charm of a small town with the conveniences of a large city. Located in the heart of the industrial Midwest, Bryan is just minutes from Michigan and Indiana – truly at the center of the country’s economic growth. These elements, along with a strong school system, booming downtown shopping district, and extensive park system, combine to make life in Bryan very appealing.
Of great aesthetic appeal to visitors and residents alike is Williams County Courthouse, located on the square in downtown Bryan. Originally built in 1888, it underwent an extensive beautification project in 1978 and now combines ornate 19th century architecture with modern fixtures. Progress and tradition co-exist in the business district that surrounds the Courthouse Square. There is ample parking and a wide variety of merchants featuring local businesses and national chain stores.

Napoleon
The City of Napoleon, located in Northwest Ohio, is the county seat of Henry County. Home to 9300 residents, Napoleon is positioned on the magnificent Maumee River which serves as a terrific venue for recreational boating, fishing and water skiing.
